Instructions for Gala Decoration Project 2014

Each student should complete one hand; please try to finish your hands by the end of April.

1. Tell students that the project they are doing today will be used to decorate the front entrance for the art gala. The art committee will not be able to return them to the students.
2. Have students trace around one of their hands with a pencil.  It doesn't matter which one.  We want some left and some right hands.
3. Then have students trace around the hand that they drew with a permanent black marker.
4. Next have the students use markers to color in their hand any way that they want.  Remind them that we want most of the hand to be colored in.
5.  Tell them to be creative.  Tell them they can use patterns, stripes, polka dots, pictures, appropriate words, etc.
6. When they are finished, have the students cut out their hand, if they are third grade and older. Remind them to be careful and to cut off all of the background and to cut right along the black lines.
7. If students are in 2nd grade or below we would like you to be the judge if your class has the skills needed to cut our their hands so that they look good.  If they don’t have the skills, we are asking you as a volunteer to quickly cut them out for us.
8. Please collect the hands and bring them to the art room and put them in a box that is labeled "hands".
9. This needs to be done by the end of April.
10. This can be a project you use while you are mounting student’s art work on the black paper or as a time filler on another week.
11.This is optional for 6th grade because they made Van Gogh Flowers that are going to be used for decoration for the Gala as well.  We would love to have 6th grade participate if they have time and want to do it.

THANK YOU!!!
